Steering and Suspension Repair in Chattanooga
Suspension wear sneaks up on you. The ride gets a little worse every month, you adapt without noticing, and then you drive someone else's car and realize how far yours has drifted. Worn parts also eat tires, which is usually what finally gets people in the door.

Sounds familiar?
- A clunk or rattle over bumps and railroad crossings
- The steering wheel feels loose or wanders on the highway
- The car keeps bouncing after you go over a dip
- It leans hard in corners or nose-dives when you brake
- Tires wearing unevenly, especially on one edge
- A groan or whine when you turn the wheel at low speed
Steering and suspension parts wear as a system. A worn tie rod end throws off the alignment, the alignment scrubs the tires, and replacing the tires without fixing the tie rod just starts the clock over. We look at the whole corner, not the one part that squeaked.
Not every clunk is urgent, and we will tell you which items are safety issues and which can wait a few months. Ball joints and tie rods belong in the first category.
Suspension work here includes an alignment check afterward, because new parts change the geometry.
Steering and Suspension Repair questions we get a lot
What is that clunking sound over bumps?
Most often it is sway bar links, worn strut mounts, or control arm bushings. All three are common and none of them are expensive to check. We drive it, find the noise, and show you the part that is moving when it should not be.
Do I need to replace shocks and struts in pairs?
Yes, across an axle. A new strut on one side and a worn one on the other makes the car handle unevenly, which is worse than two matched old ones. Front and rear can be done separately.
Can worn suspension cause tire wear?
It is one of the most common causes. Worn bushings and joints let the wheel change angle as you drive, so the tire scrubs. If you are wearing the inside edges of your tires, the suspension and alignment are the first place to look.
How long does suspension work take?
Most jobs are same day. Struts on both front corners take a few hours, and we follow them with an alignment check so the new geometry is correct.
